I primi d'italia pasta festival - september/october
The Primi d’Italia event, hosted for over ten years in late September in the historic centre of Foligno, is a new generation culinary festival. In addition to the taste of pasta and the pleasures of fine dining, the festival attempts to draw attention to organic foods and sustainable living, reminding us all that cooking is civilization. At Primi d’Italia pasta reigns supreme (thirteen-thousand kilograms of pasta are cooked during the festival in Foligno, offered by 50 fine pasta makers) but the festival is also an invitation for a critical and conscientious consumption, a place where guests can taste pasta prepared in a thousand different recipes, but also an opportunity to discover the region’s finest foods and the extremely close tie between culture and food.
Carefully selected food growers come to Foligno from throughout Italy to present and offer samples of pasta, cheeses, legumes, gnocchi….which are enjoyed by the more than two-hundred thousand guests who flock to the thirty locations where the event is held each year.
The pasta festival of Foligno offers artisan products and cooking classes for novices or experts who want to hone their skills. The event also features appearances by some of Italy’s most important chefs, including the likes of Gualtiero Marchesi and Gianfranco Vissani, who have taken part in the manifestation. And many conferences are held that explore the relationship between health and diet. In keeping with this spirit the prices are affordable enough to bring the family along, with special menus for younger festival goers. What’s more, plenty of entertainment is offered with games, street art performances, musical presentations and concerts.
